About the course
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are an important cause of deaths globally. Commonly seen CVD are ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke, acute coronary syndrome.
Primary prevention of CVD aims at prevention of onset of the disease. Secondary prevention focused on early diagnosis of critical condition and thereby reducing its impact. This can be achieved by identification of risk factors followed by advice on proper treatment.
Various risk factors for CVD include obesity, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, previous history of CV episode etc.
Drugs use for secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases are anti- lipid drugs such as statin, antithrombotic drugs like antiplatelets & anticoagulants. Antiplatelet medications remain a cornerstone of therapy for atherosclerotic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. As per the evidence-based medicine, choice of antiplatelet & anticoagulant drugs varies with the type of CVD. Use of antiplatelet therapy in CVD has significant role but also has bleeding as an adverse effect.
There are plenty of advances in the therapy for secondary prophylaxis of CVD to provide safe & effective treatment options. Dual antiplatelet therapy comprising aspirin and a P2Y12 inhibitor in acute coronary syndrome is a recent advance in treatment.
This survey is conducted amongst the consulting practitioners to analyze the Knowledge, attitude & practices about the use of various drugs for secondary prophylaxis in cardiovascular diseases
Course objectives:
1. To identify the choice of anticoagulant in patients of atrial fibrillation
2. To identify the choice of anticoagulant in patients of venous thromboembolism
3. To analyze the need of high intensity statin
4. To evaluate the need of DAPT therapy
5. To understand the adverse effects seen with DAPT therapy
